Last night 9/10/17 at Cedar Beach Hut playing a split gig with the fabulous Decadia, was one for the books. First of all Decadia is a great band and if you love the time when MTV played music, you’ll love them. Great voices and great tune selection.
theRockin45s had fun as usual and got to play one more Summer night on the beach. We did have a woman tell us we stink though. We’ve been very fortunate not to have a lot of obnoxious people in 17 years of playing the racket we play. Every once in a while we get a doozy though. This woman was dancing with her friend in front of the band and telling us we stink. Holding her nose and giving us the thumbs down. Her friend was trying to dance and have a good time and was embarrassed by her behavior. She persisted though. I noticed her doing it before Mikey did and I just shook my head at her. Obviously she wanted to get attention and that’s a pretty sad way to go about it.
When Mikey finally noticed his first reaction was to laugh. Then he got a little annoyed, like WTF. He asked if she was someone I knew and thought it might be that crazy 45RPM fan that was stalking me. It wasn’t her though and I was sure of it. She went to walk away and Mikey yelled over the microphone “hey stink” and she got excited because she got the attention she craved. So she came back on the dance floor to heckle us some more. Mikey was laughing and he turned to me and didn’t see when the security guard came to drag her out. She wanted a glass of water but they sell bottled water and when one of the beach young worker told her that she started a scene and full scale F-bomb raid and multiple tantrums. I searched the video and screen shots but she seems to have avoided photographic capture or I’d give her a little more attention.
All in all, it was a really fun night and I’m glad we did it. Don’t get me wrong, I never enjoy being told we stink. Deep down I tell myself it enough constantly, but it is humorous to get some negative feedback once in a while. The part that really makes me laugh though is Mikey yelling “hey stink” and she owned it. in her mind the connection was made “Stink…he means me.”
Here’s some cool screen shots from the video, some of which will definitely make it into the documentary.
